WEST CENTRAL RSAT - June 4, 2012

The Georgia DOC has converted West Central to a 194-bed, nine-month female integrated treatment RSAT facility. Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) is a program for probationers and inmates. Offenders selected for this program are offenders nearing release, sentenced probationers, parole revocators and other court or GDC referred offenders who need intensive substance abuse treatment.

According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2006, 74% of state prisoners with mental disorders suffer from substance abuse nationwide. “The Department will be the first Corrections System in the nation to implement an integrated treatment facility for female offenders,” said Commissioner Owens. “RSAT Centers will provide our offenders with the tools necessary to make better choices,” said Commissioner Owens.

Emily Williams and Angie Brady went with me to West Central RSAT. Because of the changes being implemented right now, we only had 11 women in the service and half of them were new. We opened the service in prayer and then did video praise and worship, followed by Emily leading them in a few songs. One of the ladies sang a solo. This was Angie’s first time and she loved it. She ministered from Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” She also used illustration of different women from the Bible who made mistakes or had things happen to them to show the women that each one of them have a PURPOSE!!! We had an amazing time in the Lord. All of the ladies came up for prayer except for one.
