WEST CENTRAL INTEGRATED TREATMENT FACILITY - Aug. 8, 2015
The evening of Saturday, August 8, 2015 was an amazing time of worship for Set Captives Free Ministries and the women of West Central. Pastor/Founder Elizabeth Smith led the women in worship and song. God’s spirit filled the room as women prayed for each other and shouted God’s praises.
Pastor Kevin Humphery reminded the ladies that God’s blessings transcend our plans, bad days and tears. When we pray, we open the opportunity for God’s Glory to shine. We want God to help us but we do not want to surrender to His will. Life may not be easy, but God’s Will always prevails!
We then read from Mark 9:17-27 – the account of Jesus, a father, and his sick son. We find out that a father has a son with a “Mute Spirit”.

We then read from Mark 9:17-27 – the account of Jesus, a father, and his sick son. We find out that a father has a son with a “Mute Spirit”. When we refuse to admit that a situation is out of OUR control and we won’t ask for help, a mute spirit inhabits us and keeps us imprisoned within ourselves.
The son was also afflicted with harmful seizures but the disciples could not help him. In your past, was there a church that prayed for you but nothing changed? A church without GOD’S power flowing through it CANNOT help anyone.
The situation for the son CHANGED when JESUS entered the picture. We need to get a HOLD on Jesus in our lives if we want real changes.
The boy was brought to Jesus and immediately had a severe seizure. Jesus asked the father how long the boy had been suffering and was told “since childhood”. Satan starts working early to keep us away from God because he knows the DESTINY God has planned for us and our family. By attacking our families, Satan hopes to stop the BLESSINGS that are coming when we focus on God faithful purpose for our lives. Many of us spend our lives making decisions based on the actions of people from our past.
When the son had seizures, he often fell into the fire or into water. We often continue to hurt ourselves because we won’t accept and admit OUR role in our own pain. God WON’T act until we admit our helplessness and INVITE/ASK Him to take control. We don’t need to “have a plan”. Instead, we need to say, “God, if you can do anything with it, HERE is my life…my failure. I don’t KNOW what I need but please come and do SOMETHING.” Ignore the opinions of other people, and cry out to Jesus to change your life.
Jesus said, “If you can believe…” In Luke 17:5-6, the apostles asked Jesus to “Increase our faith.” Giving God an ultimatum is a waste of time. We must TRUST God whether we understand what is happening in our lives or not. Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego told the king that whether God saved them from the furnace or not was HIS choice and THEIR choice was to BELIEVE! Most of us give up when a crisis hits rather than hold on to our faith in the God who controls everything. Giving God the tiny bit of faith we have, allows God to use us. We can handle ANYTHING that we SURVIVE! We are OVERCOMERS through God’s love and Power when we SURRENDER to Him for ourselves and our children.
The father WEPT and cried out to Jesus, “I believe – Lord help my unbelief.” Honesty with God allows Him to step in help us. Tell God that you WANT to believe and watch HIM open doors.
When Jesus saw people running to see what would happen, He cast the demon OUT!
The Mute Spirit came out and the boy dropped in to such a severe seizure that many people said he was dead. When we choose Jesus, Satan will attack and most of us will FALL and FAIL! Get back up and keep looking to Jesus for guidance EVERY TIME YOU FALL! This is the TESTIMONY that others will see – not that you are perfect but that your strength comes from GOD.
Jesus took the son by his hand and LIFTED HIM UP into LIFE. When we persevere, God will lift YOU up.
At the end, Pastor Kevin offered to pray with anyone who wanted to go to heaven and 9 ladies accepted. Then the entire group came forward and prayed for God’s Will to be done in their lives. Many women requested prayer for friends and family.
