WEST CENTRAL INTEGRATED TREATMENT FACILITY – April 11, 2015

Set Captives Free Ministries led by Pastor Elizabeth Smith spent the evening worshiping with 30 wonderful women (2 new) at West Central. From the first notes, the music helped us praise God joyfully and loudly for many minutes. Fervent prayer set the tone for the message.

Pastor Kevin Humphery asked us to think about our families - grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and children - and the issues/problems passed through the generations. He challenged each woman to STEP up, PRESS forward, and STOP the generational curse.

From 1 Kings 17 starting with verse10, Kevin read about Elijah, a widow, her son, and a LITTLE flour and oil. This is a story of FAITH (the belief in the unseen) and HOPE (the belief in Jesus overcoming in all situations). When Jesus rescues us, we gain a testimony to strengthen us and SHARE with others - just like Job.

When the widow met Elijah, a drought had caused a famine. Famine is anything that steals the LIFE from our homes and families. The widow had given up on life for herself AND HER SON. So when Elijah asked her for the last LITTLE bite of food she owned, she told him she had no HOPE. She was dead like we are without the Holy Spirit's power. Her plan was to make a small meal for her son and herself and then DIE. How many times were children around when we acted inappropriately? They will follow our example - our choices - UNLESS we give them something better to believe in! Without the power of God creating change in our lives, what proof can we offer that CHANGE is POSSIBLE?

Without excuses or promises, Elijah asked the widow to feed him FIRST. So many times, people ask for our last resource and we give it to them with a sigh of despair. Desperation keeps us locked in our personal hell: bad relationships, bad jobs, and bad habits. Elijah encouraged the widow not to FEAR but to SHOW HER FAITH by feeding him before her family at GOD'S request. THEN, came the promise of rescue - flour and oil until the drought ended.

How do we find our promise?
1) Put GOD FIRST knowing that no matter what the obstacles are, JESUS waits for us at the end of the trial and will support us as needed.

2) Give God every "LITTLE" that we have - faith, hope, strength, love - and watch Him increase them through practice. When we GO and DO what HE asks, no matter what the circumstances, He will honor the LITTLE that we submit to Him with an endless supply of what we need to complete the task. Then we have PROOF that God can do wonders every day.

Our CHOICES can be the foundation stones for new directions for our families, our selves, and our world. Our testimonies are the BEST way to share JESUS.

Most women in the group came and prayed for strength and discernment to help their families. Many asked for personal prayers afterward. What an amazing evening! Praise be to God!
